The Revolution Continues To Grow "The Nation"
Greetings, 1MileNation'ers...
It seems every nation at one point had their own key Revolution that jumpstarted their efforts in becoming what they are today. A spirit was swirling around the people and they finally said "Enough! We can't stand this any more...it is time for a change, and we're going to make it happen!"
Sometimes a Revolution must start in order to make things a lot better.
That's pretty much the way I see 1MileNation.com growing here.
You, as a member of 1MileNation, are a part of a new revolution in how people look at running.
As I've said before, people need to see running in a different light other than the one cast upon the sport right now: one that showcases & glorifies the epitomie of running by marathon completion or success. I don't know, but it seems to me that if you don't or haven't tried to run a marathon by the traditional running community, you are looked at being an out-cast, one of those "They don't really run, they just jog" types.
You wanna really race? I mean, do you really want to test your limits and see where your limits of speed AND endurance truly lie? Try the MILE, baby.
This ain't jogging, folks! This is some fast stuff when you get down to the nitty-gritty of running fast in the mile!
One of the very first comments I got about this blog was from another blog, which briefly stated it simply "Finally, a running site for those who want HIIT workouts!". That's exactly what I set out to do: create a New Edge Running Site for those who want to break away from tradtional long & slow methods and break running down into one of the simplest, primal acts of nature that it is: a test of speed & endurance over a short-but-long-enough distance.
It came to me at a point where I said "Enough! I'm tired of viewing 5K & 10K training recommendations that follow marathon training principles to the letter! I train multi-sport athletes for track & cross-country seasons, I don't need marathon advice for non-marathon athletes! Give me some SUBSTANCE!!!" So, after not really finding what I was searching for, I looked to other non-traditional means & ways of training, tested them out myself, and then applied them to my athletes. I created my very own 'resource', I suppose.
You could say my own personal "Declaration of Independence" that started up the heart of 1MileNation.com was when I created one of my first training e-books, called "Endure!". In "Endure!", I used GPS speed monitors, combined with high intensity interval training principles, and a blend of some traditionally hard speed work for 800 & 1600m specialists, to help me train my non-marathon runners into 5K warriors on the trails, and high speed athletes on the track. Most of the GPS stuff was applied to my cross-country athletes & their training we did. After tracking their race-pace based fitness levels of VO2 ratings after their races, as well as seeing where they were at each week during speed workouts, I saw my team improve their fitness levels by up to 20% in less than a 12 week time period.
I sensed there was a revolution happening. Once I published & released Endure! to the public through my site, I got responses from Canada, France, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, and even a professor in Austria has connected with me on my GPS training techniques.
So, if you want to see my 'Declaration of Running Independence', head over to: http://endure.speeddialcoach.com
It's what has led to me starting up this new "Nation" of Renegade Runners!
Update on Sponsors: We are now up to FIVE sponsors for the race! Things are really kickin' up, and I hope your training is going great as well. If you haven't done so, read these 2 guides to help you out:
